After three years of playing to packed houses in Georgetown and other theatres across the Island The Four Tellers are back for another summer of storytelling in a show called THE LAST LAUGH.
As in previous years the show is comprised, for the most part, of four friends and master-storytellers, Denny King, Gary Evans, Alan Buchanan and David Weale, sitting around a table swapping stories of the Island that invariably have the audience roaring with laughter, or sometimes, brushing aside a tear.
Also, woven into the storytelling are the sparkling musical arrangements of Rachael Beck and Bennett Buell.
The unique charm of the TELLERS is the spontaneous, unscripted quality of the show which allows the audience to feel they are right there, in the kitchen, as the stories roll out, one drawing the next, like tissues out of a box.

As one reviewer, Gordon Cobb, wrote: “Between the hoots and the hollers and the almost tears, there is the feeling in the theatre of being fully human. And fully alive. Catch it while you can.”
Because, after all, it is called, THE LAST LAUGH!

Alan Buchanan

Alan Buchanan was born and raised in Belfast, Prince Edward Island. He has had a varied career, but lately has become best known as a storyteller. His career on-stage began with the production, Belfast People, in the 1980’s.   Since then, he has been a member of the award-winning group, Hedgerow, and has also been featured on local, regional, and national radio broadcasts, including the popular CBC comedy show “Madly Off in all Directions”. Several summers ago, he was a member of the cast of Story which played to sold-out audiences at the Guild in Charlottetown, and for the past two summers he has been a part of the fabulously popular Four Tellers at the King’s Playhouse in Georgetown. His hilarious stories centre on the colourful characters and cultural quirks he observed growing up in a rural community. .

Dennis King

Denny King was born in Georgetown, PEI. This is his third season as part of The Four Tellers. Denny comes from a long line of story tellers. His father Lionel, uncles Donald and Jack were known to share many tales from their youth spent on Boughton Island during the Great Depression. Denny is proud to be carrying on the family tradition by sharing his unique and entertaining stories with audiences. Denny has made numerous appearances at the PEI Festival of Small Halls and in 2016 wrote and published his first book “The Day They Shot Reveen” an Atlantic Canadian best-selling book of stories. Denny operates a consulting firm in Charlottetown and in his spare time serves as the play by play broadcaster for the UPEI Panthers Men’s Hockey team.

He and his wife Jana Hemphill live in Brookfield, PEI with their children Jacob, Camdyn and Callum.

Gary Evans

Gary moved to Morell Rear in Kings County from Toronto when he was 9 years old and considers the move the most traumatic event of his life. The characters that he met and the experiences that he had form the basis of many of his stories. Gary currently lives in Stratford with his wife Kim MacLeod and works as a lawyer with the Federal Department of Justice. When telling a story Gary likes to impersonate the characters
involved in his stories especially if they are politicians. Gary is an
original member of the Four Tellers and admits that telling stories is his favourite past time...even more so than golf.

David Weale

David Weale, Island storyteller and humourist, is the co-creator and editor of RED:The Island Storybook, a popular magazine of stories about the Island by Island authors. He is also the author of a number of award-winning volumes about the history and folk culture of Prince Edward Island, including Them Times, Pride in Small Places, and An Island Christmas Reader. He is the author of several children’s books, two of which, The True Meaning of Crumbfest, and Doors in the Air are Canadian best-sellers. Additionally, he has written and performed in several stage shows, including A Long Way from the Road, Greenmount Boy, and Here on the Island.

The beck sisters

It’s hard to beat the harmonic intuition of sisters. Amy & Rachel Beck began singing together around the family piano in Montague, PEI. They now share their pop-tinged folk with eager and ever-expanding audiences in Canada and beyond. This spring, the Beck Sisters will partner with acclaimed producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, Fortunate Ones) to record the follow-up to their multi award-nominated sophomore album, Run.
